Sports Development Programme In Partnership With Cheltenham Town FC

Introduction

At Prospect Training Services, we understand that a passion for sport is more than just playing the game – it’s about building confidence, developing discipline and creating opportunities for the future. Our Sports Development Programme is designed to support young people in turning their enthusiasm for sport into valuable skills, recognised qualifications and meaningful career pathways.

Through a blend of professional coaching, practical learning and personalised support, learners develop their technical ability, fitness and understanding of the game, while also growing essential life skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership. Delivered in partnership with Cheltenham Town FC, the programme provides a motivating and realistic environment where learners can experience the standards and expectations of the sports industry.

Whether someone is looking to pursue a career in coaching, fitness or community sport, or simply wants to build confidence and stay active, we support every individual to achieve their goals. We celebrate progress at every stage, helping learners to recognise their strengths and push beyond their limits.

Programme at a Glance

The Sports Development Programme at Prospect Training Services is all about helping young people build their skills, confidence and future through sport. It’s designed to give learners the knowledge, experience and support they need to succeed both on and off the pitch. With guidance from experienced tutors and coaches, learners are supported every step of the way in a positive and motivating environment. Each learner follows a personalised programme, combining practical training with classroom learning and regular sessions throughout the week.

Throughout the academic year, on our Sports Development Programme, learners will get the opportunity to:

Develop skills and gain recognised qualifications

Learners work towards a Level 1 or Level 2 Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Active Leisure, building their knowledge of practical sport, fitness, coaching and anatomy. Assessment includes practical observations, coursework and portfolio work, allowing learners to demonstrate their progress and achievements.

Experience professional training and competitive football

Learners will take part in two training sessions per week with Cheltenham Town, benefiting from professional coaching and a realistic performance environment. In addition, learners will have the opportunity to represent the programme in the EFL CEFA league, competing against teams from across the UK.

Explore progression routes and career opportunities

The programme supports learners in planning their next steps, whether that’s progressing to a Level 3 qualification, an apprenticeship or employment. Learners gain insight into careers in coaching, fitness and the wider sports sector, alongside developing key employability skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.

You will work towards a Level 1 or Level 2 Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Active Leisure, along with enrichment subjects (plus English and/or maths, if required) from our Mill Place learning centre, 15-16 Mill Place, Off Price Street, Gloucester, GL1 5SQ. You will also have training sessions at Cheltenham Town’s training facility, Smarta Energy Training Ground, 20 Quat Goose Lane, Swindon Village, Cheltenham, GL51 9RX.

English and maths qualifications are important for everyday life and long-term career prospects. If you have achieved GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, you have the required level to undertake a Level 2 Diploma. If you haven’t, don’t worry; you may still be able to join and complete the Level 1 Diploma alongside English and/or maths studies to help you move forward with our grades via Functional Skills.

For the Level 1 Diploma in Sports, Fitness and Active Leisure, learners will be assessed and need to be working towards Level 1 English. For the Level 2 Diploma in Sports, Fitness and Active Leisure, learners must hold a grade 4 or above in English to enrol. Learners must also meet the DFE eligibility criteria for both Levels.

Learners have access to a wide range of support, including access to the Learner Support Officers (LSO) and safeguarding team. If a learner is a child in care or care leaver, we work closely with The Virtual School and Social Care team to ensure that they are fully supported while on the programme. Learners that have an EHCP will be fully supported by the team, including the SENCo.
