Programme at a Glance

Our Employability and Work Experience Programme is designed to help our young people discover career paths, gain real confidence and get ready for life after Prospect Training Services. It's all about giving learners hands-on experience in the workplace, while supporting the development of the skills, knowledge and independence that employers value.

Throughout the programme, young people will have the chance to explore different industries, see how businesses operate and understand what it takes to succeed. Building essential work-related skills, such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication and time management, while also learning to take responsibility and make decisions in a real-life setting.

Throughout the academic year, on our Employability and Work Experience programme, learners will get the opportunity to:

Build a professional network and connect with people

This programme is all about connecting young people with the right support to help them along their career journey. That could mean building relationships with mentors, getting hands-on experience through work placements or having someone to turn to for advice and guidance whenever it's needed.

Gain important qualifications that open doors to future pathways

As part of their journey with us, learners will have the chance to work towards recognised qualifications, from an Entry Level 3 - Level 1 Award in Progression. Alongside this, they can also achieve a GCSE or Entry Level - Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in English and/or maths, helping build confidence, skills and aspirations for the future.

Foster the skills that will help inside and outside of the workplace

To support progression, the programme includes additional support in Skills for Life and Skills for Work, helping learners develop a well-rounded skill set that prepares them for employment, further education or training.

Learners complete a 37-week course which is a blend of classroom based learning and external work placement. Learners will be required to attend a placement from week 10 of their programme. This is typically 1-2 days per week.

Class sizes are between 16-25 learners depending on the level of the group.

All learners carry out initial assessments and diagnostics to ensure that they are working towards the correct level for their ability which results in an individual learning plan. The Work Placement Officer completes a Work Ready Checklist to ensure that learners are matched to an employer who will help them to meet their career aspirations. Assessments and exams are arranged when the tutor and learner feel that they are exam ready to give them the best opportunity to achieve.

There are no entry requirements for the Employability and Work Experience provision. Learners must meet the DFE eligibility criteria.

Learners have access to a wide range of support including access to the Learner Support Officers (LSO) and safeguarding team. If a learner is a child in care or care leaver, we work closely with The Virtual School and Social Care team to ensure that they are fully supported while on the programme. Learners that have an EHCP will be fully supported by the team including the SENCo.
